Wow Bao

Cha siu bao (aka steamed bbq pork buns) are my favorite part of dim sum. I love their soft, doughy outside that gives way to the sweet bbq pork mixture. While in Chicago, my family and I stopped by this Wow Bao in Water Tower Place.

We got the bbq pork, coconut custard, and chocolate creme baos. The dessert baos were good but I'm all about the savory baos. I'm going to go ahead and be so bold as to say these were better than any pork buns I've ever had. (And that means a lot because I used to go to dim sum in San Francisco's Chinatown a lot when I lived there) I liked the ratio of bun to filling. There were some minced veggies added an element of surprise to each bite. I also appreciated the lack of fat chunks that are normally all too visible in most pork buns.

The rest of the menu looked promising too, especially the noodle dishes. I'd definiately go back. Not only is the name fun to say but I even heard that they have baos with scrambled eggs. Talk about a genius idea!
