Fork & Spoon

Surprisingly, I've been spending most of my time on Bainbridge Island. I've actually only made it into Seattle 3 times since being here. I'm really enjoying being out of a city. Using a car to go to grocery store? Heaven. This city girl is liking suburban life right now.

There is a super cute downtown on the island that has restaurants, art galleries, and local shops. Fork & Spoon is located right smack in the middle of the downtown. It's semi-hidden but they have done a great job of placing large and inviting signs near the entrance.

The interior was small but cute. However, the outdoor patio really made the lunch special . Lush greens, hanging lights, and sunshine made for a perfect day to eat lunch on the patio. From our table, I was also able to see straight into the kitchen through large glass windows. This was very refreshing to see. I can't always help but wonder what goes on 'behind the scenes'. Good news guys: if they dropped something, they threw it out!

{Oh hi there!}

All of the food on the menu sounded so good! It was all fresh and simple. I especially loved how they mentioned the different farms, creameries, etc. where they got each ingredient on the back part of the menu. I love eating local and seasonal ingredients.

For $7, I chose to order the combo lunch special, 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 salad. I got the happy humus sandwich (hummus, herbed goat cheese spread, avocado, cucumbers, red onion, butler greens) on blackbird whole wheat oatmeal bread. First of all, I've never had hummus and goat cheese together on a sandwich. It was terrific! The veggies kept the sandwich light and added an appreciated crunch to each bite.

I also got the French lentil herbs and feta salad on the side. It had a wonderful dijon vinaigrette which made this salad memorable.

My mother also partook in the combo special and ordered the grilled F&S meatloaf sandwich and quinoa and roasted root salad. I didn't end up trying her sandwich but her salad was delectable and flavorsome. I  never would have thought to put balsamic vinaigrette on quinoa salad.

This place was a great find. The staff was cheery, food was inviting, and location was convenient.

  6. I lived in the Seattle area for almost 18 years before starting the more nomadic portion of my married life. Your photos of your trip (in all the posts) have brought back so many memories. I love the quaintness of the Sound islands. And don't get me started on the food. Yum!
