The Mermaid Inn

I used to hate seafood. I have gotten over that hatred slowly but surely over the past few years (mainly thanks to many many sushi dates and my boyfriend). One of my fondest seafood memories is eating mountains of fresh crab, clams, mussels, and shrimp at Crab Pot in Seattle with our good friends Camilla and Damir. I've been craving that meal lately and figured that I would have to wait a month until I fly across the country to finally satisfy it. That was until I heard about the crab boil at Mermaid Inn.

The Mermaid Inn has many locations throughout NYC. They are known for seafood and lots of it. It's also crab day every Tuesday. $24 will get you about 4 Maryland crabs, corn on the cob, potatoes, jalapeno corn bread, and messy messy hands.

I went there yesterday with friends and we had a blast. Maybe it was the sexy lobster bibs or the cocktails but there is definitely something about cracking crabs that makes for a good time. We started off with some frito misto (calamari, shrimp, clams, and lemon). Next, we all got the buckets of crab. Everything was hot, juicy and seasoned with Old Bay. We also opted to get the lobster mac & cheese with truffle oil. Now the frito misto was good and the crab was delicious but man oh man, that mac & cheese was divine. It had HUGE chunks of lobster and had the perfect creaminess. It's a must of you go.
{Excuse the light, it got dark fast!}

To end our meal, our waiter brought out mini chocolate puddings for us all and fortune telling fish. Throughout the meal, the service was amazing. We were constantly being asked if we liked everything, how it was, if we needed anything, etc. Our waiter even told us when happy hour was about to end so we could put in our last drink order! ;)

While The Mermaid Inn isn't a replacement for Maryland crab houses, it does serve as a little Atlantic hideaway in the middle of the concrete jungle. Anywhere where I get to wear a lobster bib is cool in my book!
