Fonda Nolita

When I think of breakfast tacos, I naturally think of Austin, TX. Not New York City. I was reading New York Magazine's Best of NY when I came across a mouth-watering picture of some b-tac's. I knew that I had to go try them as soon as possible.

Today I ventured down to Elizabeth Street near Houston. Fonda Nolita looks more like an old garage than a restaurant. But what's that old saying? Don't judge a book by its cover? Oh right. As you walk in, you can't help but notice the man making tacos in the vintage Volkswagen van. Totally normal. You are then drawn to the 4 jugs of fresh fruit juice. Ordering food is pretty simple. Order drinks/food and pay, get tickets and then bring those to the cooks.

G and I both got Watermelon (or Sandia) juice and 4 tacos, two chorizo and two mexicana. The portions were perfect and flavors intense. I normally have a huge food baby after eating breakfast burritos but these tacos were totally different. They were the perfect amount.

I highly recommend going to Fonda Nolita if in the area. They serve other tacos and tostadas. It has a very relaxed vibe (at least when I was there) which is hard to find in this city. Oh but remember, it's cash only!

  1. that looks so good! I would love to stop by next time I'm in the city!

  2. Definitely a different sort of place. Casual dining - relaxed is good. I like Mexican food.

  3. @ Jennifer: Definitely, it was a nice change from the always seemingly fast paced city

  4. I've always wanted to try the food trucks. This place looks like a hybrid food truck/restaurant. What an awesome idea! Wish I lived closer to try this place.

Hey there! I love hearing from you :)
